Description
Since 2018, Russia’s Gosudar have released on onslaught of superb demos and splits. Not to mention their 2021 full length which remains a classic of the 2020s. Now back with a vengeance, and more importantly a new 7”. This double-dose of savagery is coming via Me Saco Un Ojo Records, and Rotted Life, so watch out!
Conjuring sparse and eldritch atmospherics, the horrors of Gosudar are so recognisable with their doomy and yet vengeful spirits. Slowly opening the tomb, the expansive and tense sounds of this new EP will certainly have Death-Doom lovers salivating at its decaying glory. But there is not just crypt-crawling slowness, no, Gosudar relish mixing things up with their diabolical twists and offers pure Death Metal violence of equally wonderful quality. Those sinuous riffs and gargantuan drums sit atop a skull throne of cavernous drums and combine to make the perfect punishing concoction of morbidity. The second track explores a more synth-oriented yet equally eerie soundscape, giving a new dimension to the band that will have you just as entranced by the gruesome feelings it evokes.
These two songs hold huge dynamics and a rotten atmosphere that lingers in the air. The 7” is such a cult format and the band hold that spirit in high regard here with a two-tracker of absolute excellence in the archaic way. At around 14 minutes, it may be short in running time but there is so much abhorrence and disdain to wade through, it feels like a complete article. Don’t just take my word for it, explore the agonising realms of the dead and feel the wrath of Gosudar…
